Line Bending Flashcards
What is line bending
Line bending is used to make simple bends in a sheet of thermoplastic polymer for a specific shape and specification
How it’s formed
A simple enclosure can be made from two U-shaped parts heated up and attached together using a suitable adhesive also heated to stick and to hold together
The process
Heat the plastic sheet until its soft and easy enough to bend
Then bend the heated softened plastic
Now hold the plastic into a mound or anything until it bends into a specific shape
How it works
Internal stresses can occur around the bend lines of materials like Acrylic. This affects the ability of the material to be glued after it has been bent. In industrial situations these stresses are relieved by annealing the material after bending. This involves heating it in an oven for four hours at 80°C.
