Extrusion Flashcards
What is extrusion
Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile of a type needed for an object
How it’s made
A material is pushed through a die of the desired cross-section. The extrusion process can be done with the material hot or cold which will be chosen to the type of product being produced or how they would like it to be done.
What materials are used
Commonly extruded materials include metals, polymers, ceramics, concrete, play dough, and food products
What is metal extrusion
Metal extrusion is a metal forming process in which a work piece, of a certain length and cross section, is forced to flow through a die of a smaller cross sectional area, this is forming the work to the new cross section.
