Q

How is a LL abort flown from Line Abreast?

A

Same as a fighting wing LL abort, but the wingman only turns 10 deg. away from the leader as opposed to 20, due to the higher initial spacing

Q

You are LL in line abreast and the weather ahead looks bad, what should you consider doing as the wingman?

A

If you think an IMC climb out of LL may be required then you can collapse from line abreast in to fighting wing in order to provide a quicker re-positioning to echelon prior to entering IMC.

Do not have to wait for the lead to call this, just decide and do it if you think it necessary.

By being in fighting wing you also provide the lead with greater manoeuvrability for getting around the bad weather should re-routing be an option.
