limiting factors Flashcards
1
Q
density independent
A
- natural factors limiting the growth of a population
- physical factors (rainfall, humidity, temperature)
- catastrophic (volcanic eruptions, floods, fires)
2
Q
density dependent
A
- limits of a population as a cause from a high population density
- competitions for resources
- predators and prey
- disease
3
Q
stable population
A
- a fluctuating population where the numbers decrease when they exceed the carrying capacity and increase when below the carrying capacity
4
Q
unstable population
A
- a population that exceeds the carrying capacity and carries on resulting in a deteriorating habitat, and therefore it not being able to support the population leading to death and possible extinction
