Limitations - Environmental Flashcards
Cold-Soaked Fuel Frost (CSFF) takeoff not permitted when (4 items)
- Ambient air temperature is below +4ºC
- Tank fuel temperature is below -16ºC
- CSFF on the wing tank upper surfaces beyond the lines defining the permissible area
- Precipitation or visible moisture (rain, snow, drizzle, fog with less than 1 SM visibility)
Define “Prolonged on Ground Cold Soak Event”
Overnight or extended parking (airplane unattended) at ambient temperatures below -15ºC
Rough Air Speed (VRA)
280 KIAS or 0.76 M, whichever is lower
Define “Damp Runway”
A runway is considered to be damp when it has a moisture layer that is non-reflective.
A damp runway is considered to be wet.
Define “Wet Runway”
A runway is considered to be wet when it is covered with sufficient moisture to cause it to appear reflective.
TRACE or FROST is considered equivalent to WET.
Define “Contaminated Runway”
A runway is considered to be contaminated when an appreciable amount of the runway surface area is covered by standing water, slush, snow or ice.
If the coverage is more than 25%, the runway must be considered contaminated.
Maximum Amount of Snow or Slush for Take-off
- more than 4 in (102 mm) of dry snow; or
- more than 1/2 in (13 mm) of slush, wet snow or standing water
Contaminated Take-off Prohibited
Take-off is prohibited when any combination of the following runway conditions is greater than 25%: • Wet Ice • Water over Ice • Water over Compacted Snow • Slush over Ice • Dry Snow or Wet Snow over Ice
