Q

Define “Icing Conditions” on the Ground

A

Ground Icing Conditions exist when
• The OAT is 10ºC or below; and
• Visible moisture in any form is present; or
• When operating on ramps, taxiways or runways where surface snow, ice, standing water or slush may be ingested by the engines or freeze on engines or nacelles

Q

Define “Icing Conditions” in flight

A

Icing Conditions exist in flight (climb and cruise) when:
• The TAT is 10ºC or below; and
• The SAT is -40ºC or above; and
• Visible moisture in any form is present (clouds, fog, rain, snow, sleet, ice crystals)

Engine anti-ice must be on prior to and during descent in all Icing Conditions, including temperatures below -40ºC.

Q

Engine Ignition Use on Ground

A
  • Left Ignition for odd flight numbers
  • Right Ignition for first flight and even flight numbers
  • For first flight of the day, at airports at or above 2,000 ASL, if the temperature is below 5ºC / 41ºF, consider placing ignition to BOTH

Q

Engine Starter Limits

A
  • Multiple consecutive start attempts are permitted; each start attempt limited to 3 minutes with 10 second break
  • Extended engine motoring limited to 5 minutes with a 5 minute break between first two motorings. For third and subsequent motorings a 10 minute break is required.

Q

Aborted Engine Start Parameters

A
  • N1 or N2 does not increase (or increases very slowly) after EGT increases
  • No oil pressure indication by the time the engine is at idle
  • EGT does not increase by 15 seconds after Engine Start Lever is moved to IDLE detent
  • EGT quickly nears or exceeds the start limit
