Ligaments of Lower Extremity Flashcards
What ligaments are associated with the sacroiliac joint?
Sacrotuberous ligament
Sacrospinous Ligament
What ligaments are associated with the hip?
Labrum Transverse acetabular ligament Iliofemoral ligament Ischiofemoral ligament Pubofemoral ligament Ligament of the head of the femur
What are the ligaments of the knee?
Medial and lateral meniscus Patellar ligament/quadriceps tendon Fibular collateral ligament Tibial collateral ligament Oblique popliteal ligament Arcuat popliteal ligament Anterior cruciate ligament Posterior cruciate ligament Coronary ligament Pes anserine
What are the bursa associated with tendons in the knee?
Suprapatellar
Prepatellar
What is the ligament of the talocrural joint?
Deltoid ligament
What is the inguinal ligament of the abdomen?
Inguinal ligament
What are the muscles of the abdomen?
Rectus abdominis External oblique Internal oblique Transversus Abdominis Pyramidalis
Describe the labrum of the hip.
Connective tissue surrounding the acetabulum
Describe the transverse acetabular ligament.
In the transverse plane, a ligament on the inferior portion of the acetabulum
Describe the iliofemoral ligament
Y shaped ligament connecting the ilium to the femur at the intertrochanteric line - closest to sagittal plane
Describe the ischiofemoral ligament
Ligament connecting ischium to femur - transverse plane -posterior
Describe the pubofemoral ligament
Ligament from the pubis to the femur - anterior - deep to iliofemoral ligament
Describe the ligament of the head of the femur
Ligament connects femur to acetabular fossa - looks like it originates just superior to the transverse acetabular ligament and connects to the head of the femur - fovea capitis
Describe the suprapatellar bursa of the knee
Superior and deep to patella - synovial bursa on the level of the synovial joint
Describe the prepatellar bursa of the knee
Subcutaneous bursa just superficial to the patella (associated with tendons)
Describe both medial and lateral meniscus of the knee.
On the medial and lateral condyles of tibia - use fibula or tibial tuberosity for reference
Describe the patellar ligament of the knee.
Patellar ligament connects the patella to the tibial tuberosity
Describe the quadriceps muscle tendon of the knee.
Connects the quadriceps muscle tendons to the patella
Describe the fibular collateral ligament of the knee
Lateral collateral ligament of the knee - connects lateral epicondyle of femur to the lateral head of the fibula - deep to biceps femoris tendon and iliotibial tract
Describe the tibial collateral ligament of the knee.
Medial collateral ligament - longer of the collateral ligaments - connects medial epicondyle of femur to the medial condyle and shaft of tibia - deep fibers of tibial collateral ligament bind to medial meniscus - deep to pes anserine
Describe the oblique popliteal ligament
Runs superior and fairly parallel to the popliteus muscle
Describe the arcuate popliteal ligament
Superficial to proximal portion of popliteus muscle - runs almost within sagittal plane - arches over proximal muscle
Describe the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee
Attaches on anterior aspect of tibia in between the attachments of horns of the medial meniscus - attaches on medial aspect of the lateral condyle of femur
Describe the posterior cruciate ligament of the knee.
Attaches most posterior surface of tibia posterior to all meniscus horn attachments - attaches on medial aspect of the medial condyle of the femur
Describe the coronary ligament of the knee
Connects inferior edges of medial/lateral menisci to joint capsule of knee - helps anchor meniscus to tibia
Describe the pes anserine of knee
Collection of three tendons from sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus muscles with insertion on medial anterior aspect of tibia
Describe the deltoid ligament of the talocrural joint
Roughly 4 ligaments attaching medial malleolus to the calcaneus, talus, and navicular - posterior medial and anterior attachments - sustentaculum tali
