Life Preservers Flashcards
What mechanically inflates each cell of a life preserver?
A 28g CO2 cylinder.
How are FLU-9/P actuators activated?
Automaticly
What are the four types of life preserver inspections and the two tests?
Preflight/screening, initial installation, special, periodic.
Functional, leakage.
What is a screening inspection?
Visual inspection without opening.
When is a special inspection warranted?
When circumstances lead you to think its serviceability is questionable, or when an issue during a function test involves inflation assembly.
What percent of life preservers is tested?
5%
How often may any one life preserver be functionally tested?
No more than once a year.
During which inspection task do you weigh the CO2 cartridge?
Leak test.
During the inspection, describe what is done to any survival items that might be installed.
Inventory/inspect them.
How many and what size CO2 cartridges are located in the LPU-10/P?
1 28g cartridge per cell
What is the correct angle for the clip to engage in the buckle on the waist strap of the LPU-10/P?
90 degrees
What special inspection do you perform on cells that have hook and pile tape cemented directly to the cells?
10-12 lb pull test.
What items are you looking for when you remove the cap nut from the inflator?
Cross thread, valve core in stem, presence/condition of inflator gasket.
What is the correct inflated PSI for the start of a leak test on the LPU-10/P?
2 PSI
What position must actuation levers be placed in prior to installing serviceable CO2 cartridges?
Closed.
When do you preform a functional test on a LPU-38/P?
Before put in service/ every 4th periodic.
What is the service life of the FLU-9 B/P batteries?
3 yrs from DOM.
How do you tell whether an FLU-9 B/P inflator has automatically fired?
Presence of pin in fire indicator port.
Describe how you install the batteries into the FLU- 9 B/P.
+ 2 + & - 2 -, re-install kapton sleeve and screw sensor plug in finger tight.
What is the acceptable voltage reading for the battery test?
12.0 VDC or higher.
