Where did the sailors and captain sleep?
The captain slept in his cabin and sailors either slept on the deck in the open air or below decks on hammocks.
Constant hard work on ship:
Raising and managing the sails
Steering and cleaning the ship
Making repairs
Preparing food for everyone
What was done during mutiny?
During mutiny (sailors rebelling against their captain) harsh discipline like being flogged (whipped), being put in chains for breaking minor rule and execution (very common) was in acted.
Food onboard ship:
Food tended to be dry and salty because of the long voyages. Once the crew had run out of fresh fruit and vegetables, they ate flat hard bread made from water, flour and salt calling it ships biscuit.
Illness on the ship:
Lack of freshwater caused typhoid
More symptoms of scurvy was exhaustion, vomiting and eventually death
