After seven years the apprentice became a journeyman. Now payed for his work. He could leave his old master and travel around looking for better pay.

A journeyman then had to make a MASTERPIECE. Then he could have his own workshop and sell his own goods. E.g. Carpenter might make a table. Along with the masterpiece they had to pay a large amount of money to the guild. Most journeymen could not afford this therefore not becoming a master
