What was life like for a Monk.

A

Monks were men dedicated to a religious order and life in a monastery. A monastery was a closed religious community. Monks had very strict and basic lives. Monks would go to mass and pray in an oratory. They prayed 6-8 times a day. Monks usually grew all of their food so they did a lot of farm work. They would eat their meals in a refectory. They would copy manuscripts by hand and illustrate them with scribes in a scriptorium. Monks believed that being isolated in a monastery would let them focus more on god. At the end of their life the monks would be buried in a cemetery.
