LIDAR Flashcards
LIDAR
Technology used to create a high-resolution models of ground elevation. Uses rapid pulses of laser light to measure distances and to densely sample the surface of the earth, objects, and physical infrastructure
FTP
Standard communication protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server to a client on a computer network
WinSCP
Used for file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Also offers scripting and basic file manager functionality
Create LAS Dataset Tool
A geoprocessing tool that creates a LAS dataset referencing one or more .las files and optional surface constraint features
LAS filters
Allows you to change the display of the data contributing to the LAS dataset. Filters change which lidar points and surface constraints are drawn
Number of returns
Total number of returns for a given pulse. There are as many returns as there are reflective surfaces
First Return
The most significant return and will be associated with the highest feature in the landscape like a treetop or the top of a building
Intensity of Return
The return strength of the laser pulse that generated the lidar point
DEM
A raster representation of a continuous surface, usually referencing the surface of the earth. Accuracy is determined by the distance between sample points
TIN
A form of vector-based digital geographic and is constructed by triangulating a set of points
LAS Point Statistics by Area Tool
Evaluates the statistics of LAS points that overlay the area defined by polygon features
Extrusion
The process of stretching a flat, 2D shape vertically to create a 3D object in a scene
