Requirements to apply for a NEW pharmacist license
-> Graduate of an ACPE-accredited or BOP approved school of pharmacy -> 18 years old -> Completion of 1500 intern hours -> Good moral character
Requirements for TRANSFER pharmacist license
Must meet requirements of “New Pharmacist” (grad of approved school, 18+, 1500 intern hrs, moral character) and:
●Good standing in states where applicant holds license
● Other state/jurisdiction is recognized by Board of Pharmacy
● Preliminary application via NABP
→ NABP will conduct evaluation
Requirments of FOREIGN GRADUATE applying for pharmacist license
Must meet requirements of “New Pharmacist” (grad from approved school, 18+, 1500 intern hrs, good moral charac) and:
● Official copy of FPGEC Certification from NABP
(Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee)
Application fee for NEW and FOREIGN GRADUATE
$421
Application fee for TRANSFER
reciprocity = $525
score transfer = $375
(900$ for both)
How many CE hours needed to renew your pharmacist license
pharmacist license up for renewal every 2 yrs
20 contact hours/year required
so 40 contact hours needed per 2-year renewal cycle
contact hour = at least 50 mins; education credit; (or equivalent determined by board for board approved Continuing Education)
Specific CE requirements
the following is hours required PER YEAR (**double these for hours per cycle)
LAW: 2 hours
LIVE: 5 hours
MAX per day: 8 hours
Sterile compounding rph -> 5 hrs on sterile compounding
non-sterile compounding rph -> 3 hrs on non-sterile compounding
vaccine administering rph -> 2 hrs PER CYCLE (***no yearly requirement)
CE requirements DO NOT apply the year you graduated pharmacy school :)
Minimum intern hours
1500
either:
1. 1000 by pharmacy; 500 by BOP-approved internships
2. 1500 through experiential pharmacy practice (APPE/IPPE) ACPE-accredited pharmacy school
Degree or education required for NEW and TRANSFER pharmacist license
Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
Degree or education required for FOREIGN pharmacist license
Graduate from a non-accredited school of pharmacy or foreign pharmacy school
Exam requirements for NEW, TRANSFER and FOREIGN pharmacist license
Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE)

North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX)
** transfer: Score must be sent by National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) via a Transfer of Pharmacist Licensure Application (TPL)
Documents needed to apply for pharmacist license
MA MOP uses PCS (profess credential services) to process applications
- payment
- photo
- verification of graduation form
- copy of (valid); drivers license/ passport/ birth certificate
- notary for PCS to run background check
1-5 = everything for NEW
- for score transfer - (+) request NABP send NAPLEX score to MA BOP prior to taking the exam
- for reciprocity - (+) Application for transfer of pharmacist licensure from NABP
- *for foreign - (+) FPGEC certification from NABP
