State requirements for holding pilot license (9) (36.10.2)
Pilot operating NZ registered aircraft must hold an appropriate pilots license except for:
- student pilot
- balloon pilot
- glider
- hang glider
- microlight
- paraglider
- light sport aircraft
- power glider.
36.10.4 State the requirements for a pilot-in-command to hold a type rating on the type of aircraft being flown.
Pilot of a nz registered aircraft or foreign aircraft operating in NZ must hold a current type rating for the aircraft
except:
- student pilot
- A cat,
- Test pilot
- Or gaining experience towards a type rating and authorised by an appropriately qualified flight instructor.

36.12.6 State the limitations on a person who does not hold a current pilot licence.
Cannot manipulate controls of an aircraft unless the person is receiving dual flight instruction, or acting as PIC (student pilot privileges)
36.12.8State the eligibility requirements for the issue of an airline transport pilot licence. (10)
- 21 years of age
- Current CPL for the appropriate category of aircraft
- Hold an IR
- 1500 minimum flight hours
- Done the exams and KDRs, has knowledge of the 7 exam areas
- Passed a flight test
- Knows privileges and limitations of ATPL
- Technical and operational knowledge of the aircraft used in the flight test including
emergency procedures and abnormal. - Competence in ATS terminology
- Flight test conducted under IFR, cross country flight with
a) Multi with MTOW of 5700kgs or more
b) Multi acceptable to the director
c) Synthetic flight trainer that is approved for ATPL flight tests.
36.12.10 State the privileges of holding an airline transport pilot licence.
Privileges of a PPL and CPL and act as PIC of an aircraft that is required to be operated with a co-pilot and is engaged on an ATO or an operation for hire or reward.
36.14.2 State the recent experience requirements of a pilot-in-command on an air operation, who is the holder of an airline transport pilot licence.
Holder of an ATPL is required to comply with medical requirements, recent flight experience and BFR before exercising the privileges of the licence.
36.14.4 State the requirements for the completion of a biennial flight review.
- BFR conducted within 24 months from date of issue with a qualified instructor
- Acceptable standard to director
- Entered immediately after by the instructor into the logbook of the pilot.
- If completed within 60 days before the date on which it is due, the BFR is deemed to
have been completed on the required date.
36.14.6 Explain the use of a lower licence or rating.
Pilots may exercise privileges of the lower pilot licence if they meet the currency and medical requirements.
36.14.8 State the period within which a pilot, acting as a flight crew member of an aircraft engaged on a CAR Part 121/125 air operation under IFR, must have passed a check of normal, abnormal and emergency procedures in the same aeroplane type.
IFR - certificate holder must ensure each pilot acting as crew member has completed within last 6 months a competency assessment with a flight examiner that covers procedures, emergency, and includes HF and CRM
VFR - last 12 months completed a competency assessment with a flight examiner that covers procedures, emergency procedures and includes HF and CRM
36.14.10 State the period within which a pilot of an aircraft engaged on an air operation under CAR Part 121/125 must have completed a written or oral test of their knowledge in aeroplane systems, performance and operating procedures.
Certificate holder must ensure that their flight crew has completed a written or oral test in the last 12 months that includes
- Relevant CAA rules
- Operational specifications of the certificate holder
- Systems, operating procedures, flight manual content and emergency procedures.
- Navigation, ATS, Met.
- New equipment, procedures and techniques.
36.14.12 State the period within which a pilot-in-command of an aircraft engaged on an air operation under CAR Part 121/125 must have passed a check of route and aerodrome proficiency.
In the past 12 months PIC has passed a route check with a flight examiner. This includes an aerodrome proficiency check consisting of atleast 1 flight over 1 route segment and 1 or more landings at aerodromes
