Society must be based on individual freedom for individuals to flourish

A ‘necessary evil’ for all Liberals
Based on the social contract theory
Serves a useful purpose in society
How do Liberals view the economy?
All Liberals support private property and capitalism
Should enhance individualism and freedom
The state plays a useful role in the economy
What is rationalism?
Belief in reason and logic
All humans have rational capacities
Humans are capable of progressing through rational thought
Humans should be free to exercise their rationality
How do Liberals view equality?
Everyone is born equal (foundational equality)
Society based on equality of opportunity - meritocracy
What is Liberal Democracy?
A principle type of democracy where all citizens are treated equally and their rights protected
The government is limited and subject to rules
A majority earn the right to form a state and make law - must respect rights of minority
