Lever Systems Flashcards
1
Q
Components of a Lever
A
-A joint (Fulcrum)
-A weight/resistance placed on the joint (Load)
-Muscle that creates force + movement (Effort)
2
Q
1st Class Lever (EFL)
A
-Fulcrum between effort and load
-Can provide mechanical advantage, depends on if fulcrum is closer to load or effort
-Example: Header in Football
3
Q
2nd Class Lever (ELF)
A
-Load between effort and fulcrum
-Always provides mechanical advantage (effort arm longer than weight arm)
-Example: Take-off in a Lay-up
4
Q
3rd Class Lever (FEL)
A
-Effort is between fulcrum and load
-Never provides mechanical advantage
Example: Bicep Curl
5
Q
Mechanical Advantage
A
-Lever can move a larger load with smaller effort
Mechanical Advantage= Load divided by Effort
