Levels of Organization Flashcards
level comprised of subatomic particles, atoms and molecules
chemical level
the basic structural and functional unit of an organism
cellular level
four main types of tissues
epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous
tissue that covers and protects the body
epithelial tissue
tissue that provides support
connective tissue
tissue for movement
muscle tissue
tissue for control and communication
nervous tissue
tissue for movement
muscle tissue
type of epithelial tissue with only single layer of cells
simple epithelium
type of epithelial tissue which appears to have multiple layers of cells because of the different levels of nucleus, but is actually only a single layer of cells
pseudostratified epithelium
type of epithelial tissue which consists of two or more layer of cells
stratified epithelium
epithelial cells which are flat or thin
squamous cells
epithelial cells that are as tall as they are wide and shaped like cubes or hexagons and may have microvilli
cuboidal cells
epithelial cells that are tall and protect underlying tissues
columnal cells
epithelium cells that change shape from squamous to cuboidal depending on need
transitional cells
