Meaning Mnemonic
The meaning of the kanji is the same as the meaning of the radical: height. It can also be used as a measurement that’s approximately ten feet.

Reading Mnemonic
Your job is to figure out the height of Joeseph (じょう) Stalin. You measure him, and you find that his height is way higher than you imagined. In fact, he’s not the height of a normal human. He’s like, ten feet tall.

It’s pretty incredible you get to measure Joeseph Stalin’s height. What’s more incredible is his height, itself.

Reading Mnemonic
Who is crying? You (ゆう) are. You lack courage and bravery and everything so that’s why it is you who is doing the crying.
Additional Info:
Feel the shame of being you. You cry and cry because you lack courage and bravery and all that. Feel sad as everyone laughs and jeers at you.

Meaning Mnemonic
If a tsunami hits a cemetery, it can change the method of the law by which it is governed. The cemetery is ruled by zombies and they’ve decided to change the way things are after the tsunami – the cemetery needs a change. The laws and methods of government must be changed.
Additional Info:
Picture this zombie government in the cemetery as they debate over laws and methods. It’s a lot of moaning and rotted limbs falling off. Hear the sound of their groans and moans as you smell the rotting flesh in the air.

Reading Mnemonic
The first method they alter is the laws of magicians. They used to have a ban on living magicians, but they changed the law to allow Harry Hou-dini (ほう) to come and perform for them. They really like Hou-dini and are excited to have him perform.
Additional Info:
Imagine these zombies watching Hou-dini perform his magic. The zombies are easily amused, so listen to them moan and groan in amazement.

You saw down a bamboo tree to construct and build a building. Bamboo trees are great for construction, so you saw down a bunch of bamboo trees to build this new building.
Additional Info:
Imagine yourself sawing down this bamboo tree. Feel the saw in your hands as you slide through the bamboo, wood chips flying everywhere.

Reading Mnemonic
You’re a chick (ちく). Defying all convention, you’re a chick construction worker, building this building with bamboo. There aren’t too many chicks in this business, but you’re one of them.
Additional Info:
Imagine how you feel as you construct and build this building with your bare hands. Hear the bamboo donk, bonk, and clunk as you stack them atop one another to build your building.
