Leukopenia- P Flashcards
What is the cell marker of hematopoietic stem cells?
CD34+
What is a normal WBC?
4.5-11k/uL
What is leukopenia?
Less than 4.5k/uL WBC’s
What is leukocytosis?
Greater than 11k/uL WBC’s
Drug toxicity and severe infection are 2 common causes of what?
Neutropenia
Why
- Chemo and alkylating agents
- Increased movement of neuts into the tissues
What is the common treatment for neutropenia?
GM-CSF or G-CSF to boost granulocytes
What are the causes of lymphocytopenia?
- immunodeficiency (SCID, HIV and DiGeorge)
- High cortisol
- AI destruction (SLE)
- Whole body radiation
- sepsis/postop
Failure for the 3rd and 4th pharyngeal pouch to develop results and what missing and what is the dz called?
Thymus
Called DiGeorge Syndrome
What does increase cortisol in the serum do the lymphocytes and what can cause this?
- Exogenous steroids
- Cushing syndrome
- causes apop of lymphocytes
What is the most sensitive cell in the body to radiation?
Lymphocytes
What besides drug toxicity and sepsis can cause neutropenia? What levels is considered this?
What cause and what levels are considered eosinopenia?
