Chronic Leukemia-P Flashcards
What are the basic principles of chronic leukemia?
Neoplastic proliferation of MATURE circulation lymphocytes
- increased WBC
- usually insidious in onset
- older adults
What is CLL?
Proliferation of Naive B cells that Co-express CD5 and CD20
- MOST COMMON Leukemia overall
What is a common blood smear finding of CLL?
Smudge cells
- looks like splattered cells on the blood smear
What CLL has involvement with the lymph nodes what is it called?
Small lymphocytic lymphoma
- presents with LAD
What are the 3 common complications found with CLL?
- hypogammaglobinemia
- AIHA
- Transform into diffuse Large B cell lymphoma
What is the most common cause of death with someone with CLL?
Infection due to decreased Gamma globulin
Someone with CLL comes in with splenomegaly and LAD what is the likely cause?
Complication of CLL transforming into large B cell lymphoma
Neoplastic proliferation of Mature B cells Characterized by hairy cytoplasmic processes is known as what?
Hairy Cell Leukemia
Cells in HCL are positive for what?
Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)
Hairy cells in HCL are thought to be trapped in the red pulp of the spleen and the bone marrow what sort of consequences does this lead to?
- Splenomegaly
- Marrow fibrosis (Dry Tap on Bm aspirate)
- NO LAD because hairy cells trapped in BM and Red pulp of spleen.
What is the desired treatment of HCL and what is its MOA?
2-CDA (Cladrabine)
- Adenosine deaminase inhibitor which cause adenosine to build up at toxic levels in the neoplastic B cells
What is Adult T cell Leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) and what is it association?
Neoplastic prolif of mature CD4+ T cells
- ass. with HTLV-1
- most common in Japan and Caribbean
What are the clinical symptoms of ATLL?
- Rash
- LAD
- hepatosplenomegaly
- Lytic bone lesions with
Of those clinical symtomes what distinquishes ATLL from Multiple Myeloma?
The rash
What is Mycosis Fungiodes?
Neoplastic prolif of CD4+ T Cells that infiltrate the skin Produces - Skin rash - Plaques - Nodules
