leucocytes Flashcards
what are the structural properties of leucocytes?
cells are colourless due to the lack of haemoglobin, and are also irregularly shaped with the presence of a nucleus
what are the physical properties of leucocytes?
they are mobile and can change shape and squeeze through gaps in capillary walls
what are the functions of phagocytes?
phagocytes carry out phagocytosis where phagocytes engulf and digest bacteria. leucosytes die and form pus after this process
what are the functions of lymphocytes?
lymphocytes produce antibodies, neutralising toxins produced by bacteria through recognition and bind of antibodies to antigens. they also cause bacteria to clump together so that phagocytes can locate them and engulf them more quickly
