lets do this! chapter 16 Flashcards
What are the 2 efferent divisions of the Autonomic Nervous System?
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic
T or F… the sympathetic and parasympathetic have the same neural pathways?
False. they have different pathways but both innervate the same organ.
The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) carries efferent signals to viceral effectors or regulates involuntary effectors. What are these effectors (hint organs)
GAS-C Glandular epithelium, Adipose/Kidney tissue Smooth mm, Cardiac mm,
What are the smooth mm the ANS innervates?
blood vessels, bronchial tubes, stomach, gallbladder, intestines, urinary tract, spleen, eye(iris, ciliary mm), hair follicles.
What Glandular Epithelium does the ANS innervate?
Sweat glands, Lacrimal glands, Digestive glands (salivary, gastric, pancreas, liver), Adrenal medulla
Do sympathetic system innervate skeletal mm?
yes but it is just helping regulate contractility of skeletale mm during intense exercise to avoid fatique.
How many Autonomic neurons conduct info from the CNS? WHat are they called?
2, 1st pregangliononic neron, 2nd postganglionic neruron
The sympathetic preganglionic neurons have their dendrites and cell bodies in the lateral grey horn of thoracic and lumbar segments of the spinal cord. For that reason what else is the sympathetic division called?
thoracolumbar division
What are the ganglia in the Sympathetic Nervous System called?
Sympathetic trunk or sympathetic chain ganglia
The sympathetic trunk runs on either side of the spine. What vertebra does it start at? How many of them are usually within the chain?
starts at C2, usually has 22 ganglia in the chain
Most of the postganglionic neurons are found farther from the effector, therefore they can…..?
innervate and effect multiple organs
Where are the cell bodies of the parasympathetic preganglionic neurons found?
brainstem and lateral grey horn of the sacral cord
what is another name for the parasympathetic division?
craniosacral division
The ganglia in the parasympathetic division is located close to the organ they innervate therefore they usually only innervate one organ. T or F?
True Pg 494
what cranial nerves are the axons of the parasympathetic preganglion cells found in?
III, VII, IX, X
