STDs
Transmission of STDS are by means of
sexual behavior, including vaginal intercourse, anal sex, and oral sex
Some STDs can also be contracted by
sharing intravenous drug needles with an infected person
Chlamydia is caused by the bacteria
Chlamydia trachomatis
*Can infect both men and women
*Can be acquired during oral, vaginal, or anal sex with someone
who has the infection.

Symptoms of Chlamydia in women include:
*Abnormal vaginal discharge, which may have a
strong smell
*Burning sensation when urinating
*Pain during intercourse (If the infection spreads,
you might get lower abdominal pain, pain during
sex, nausea, or fever.)
Symptoms of Chlamydia in men include:
*Discharge from the penis
*Burning sensation when urinating
*Burning or itching around the opening of the penis
*Pain and swelling in one or both testicles (although
this is less common)
*Common infection that stays in one’s body for life. It causes
sores on one’s genital and/or mouth which can be annoying and painful.
Herpes
Herpes is caused by two different but similar viruses:
Herpes Simplex Virus type (HSV-1) and Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2)
Can be transmitted when one’s genital and/or mouth touches
the genital/mouth of the other person during oral, anal, and vaginal sex.

*Vaginal bleeding between periods

*Pain upon engaging in sexual intercourse
*Sharp pain in the lower abdomen
*Fever
*It starts as a sore on one’s genital, rectum or mouth

Syhpilis
Stage 1 of Syphilis
*A sore called “chancre” pops up; it is where the syphilis
infection enters the body.
*It shows up on one’s vulva, vagina, anus, penis,
scrotum, and rarely none on the lips or mouth which
may be visibly seen or hidden on the parts mentioned.
*Usually show up between 3 weeks and 3 months after
one gets the infection
Stage 2 of Syphilis
● Symptoms include rashes on the palms of one’s
hands, soles of the feet, or other part of one’s body.
● May experience slight fever, feeling tired, sore
throat, swollen glands, headache, muscle aches,
hair loss, and swollen lymph nodes.
● Sores in the mouth, vagina, or anus may also be
evident
Late Stage of Syphilis
● May be no signs or symptoms at all for months or even
years; but, one still needs to get treatment to get rid of it.
● If untreated, would lead to more serious health problems
like tumors, blindness, and paralysis.
● Can also damage the nervous system, brain, and other
organs, that would lead to death. (If Untreated)
