Q

How did the PH get involved in the war

A

With the rise of fascism and militarism, the Japanese are looking into conquest of glory. One way they would achieve this is through colonial expansion.

Philippines, having great natural resources and a good strategic location since it is in the center of the Southeast Asia, Japanese would naturally see this as one of its main target. If they sucessfully occupy the Philippines, they could make one or stay in one of the Military bases of the Philippines, where they could go and then replenish their supply. The Japanese could leverage that to colonize our other Southeast Asian neighbors

Q

Why did we lose on the war against the Japanese

A

Although our country has the numbers, there is a one big bad decision that led to this.

Gen. McArthur has been preparing its military before the war. However, due to to the combined factors of a bad case of procastination and a bad weather, the US Air Force was bombed by the Japanese Air Force. Although we had the homecourt advantage and the numbers, this would amount to nothing against the bombing of the Japanese Air Force to the helpless infantry and supplies of the country.

Q

Comfort women and why is it important that we remember this?

A

We should remember the comfort women to seek justice for their sufferings and be careful to not make the same mistakes in the history.

Also, by remembering these women, we provide them dignity and voice that the Japanese took when they forced them into sex slavery.

This is also a way for PH to affirm national dignity against colonials and wartime oppressors.
