Era
A period of time marked by certain or special events, ideas, or persons.
EX: which era is most interesting to you?
Equator
An imaginary line around the center of the earth that is halfway between the North and South Pole. EX: the earth’s equator, runs through South America.
Forswear
To give up or reject seriously. EX: It’s hard for many people to forswear junk food.
Infiltrate
To filter into or through. EX: Does the sun infiltrate the clouds?
Irreversible
Incapable of being changed. EX: Is the damage irreversible?
Meteorological
Science that deals with the study of the atmosphere, weather, and climate. EX: These pictures show the results of meteorological studies.
Penetrate
To pass into or through, especially by force. EX: The UVA rays of the sun penetrate deeper into the skin.
Precise
Exact in measurement or amount. EX: This target shows precise hits.
Synthetic
Not natural; artificial. EX: Synthetic materials often cost less than the real thing.
Thaw
To melt. EX: When an object thaws, it’s no longer frozen.
Brutish
Like or resembling an animal or beast, stupid, savage, or cruel. EX: Because of his brutish behavior, he didn’t have many friends.
Harass
To bother, annoy, or torment repeatedly. EX: If you harass someone, it might be considered bullying.
Lacerated
To rip or year roughly, especially in an injury. EX: The player lacerated his foot in the game.
Lambaste
To scold harshly. EX: The man will lambaste his dog for digging up the flowers.
Maimed
To injure or disable severely; crippled.
EX: The puppy was maimed by the wild dogs.
Mutilate
To injure or disable seriously, as by cutting off a limb. EX: The dolphins tail was mutilated.
Rile
To annoy, to irritate, or to anger. EX: The girl tends to rule up the cat.
Skirmish
A brief or minor battle between a small body of troops. EX: The men are taking cover during the skirmish.
Tantrum
A sudden outburst of bad temper, anger, or rage. EX: The man’s tantrum angered his co-workers.
Taunt
To sarcastically mock, or criticise with insults. EX: The bully is taunting the smaller child.
Centenary
A period of 100 years; centennial. EX: The great grandmother reached her centenary birthday.
Decathlon
A contest in which athletes compete in 10 different track and field events. EX: The athlete ran in a decathlon.
Hexagon
A two-dimensional geometric figure formed of six sides. EX: She drew a Hexagon for her sister.
Monarchy
A political system in which a state is ruled by a single ruler called a monarch. EX: The queen is the head of the monarchy.
Monotonous
Uninteresting or boring as a result of being repetitive and unvaried. EX: Monotonous driving can put you to sleep.
Novena
Saying prayers for 9 consecutive days to achieve a specific purpose. EX: Her novena began on December 1st.
Octagonal
A two-dimensional geometric figure formed of eight sides and eight angles. EX: I have an octagonal clock in my kitchen.
Quadruple
- To multiply something by four or become four times as great. 2. Made up of four parts. EX: A quadruple rainbow is a rarity.
Sextet
Any group of six people or things. EX: Being born as a sextet would be challenging.
Uniformity
Consistent; conforming to one standard or rule. EX: Uniformity is often boring.
