What is longshore drift?

A
  • occurs when waves approach beach at an angle
  • material is pushed onto the shore in the seas swash in the direction of the dominant wind
  • material is then brought back down to sea at a 90 degree angle under the influence of gravity
  • this is the zig zag effect
