Describe the history of Proxemics

A

The term “proxemics was coined by anthropologist, Edward T.Hall during the 1950’s and 60’s
He argued it is “the branch of knowledge that deals with the amount of space the people feel it necessary to set between themselves and others”
He divided the personal distance we kept from others into 4 main zones - Intimate, Personal, Social and Public

Describe the study of Proxemics

A

The study of proxemics is useful when analysing the implied distance or position between the camera and the subject
For example, a close-up implies that the camera is close to the subject, whereas a long shot implies a longer distance from the subject
The camera’s viewpoint represents the eyes of the spectator
