- a 1 page summary
- aim: where you want to be
- causes: the things that are stopping you from achieving your aim
- change ideas: things you could try to bring you closer to your aim

- Don’t use jargon or specific terminology
- use SMART characteristics
- make it measurable and clarify the end point

A
- How much does it contribute to the aim?
- Will it bring more/less improvement compared to others?
- Will they be difficult to instigate/manage?
- Is it sustainable?
- Do you have the resources to facilitate it?

A
Small and Simple
- can plan effectively to instigate the change process
- build teams trust as the improvement lead
- provides encouragement to the team to provide change
Big and Complex
- more experience needed from QI lead
- longer lead in time
- involves more people/ crossing boundaries
BIG AND SIMPLE IS IDEAL

A
- When implementing change would it be most effective if you focus on the main 80% (the vital few) rather than everything (the useful many)?
- the vital few are normally more complex than the useful many
- the useful many account for less, but are easier to access
