What does the modes of production mean?
The social relationships through which human labor (work) is used to produce things (transforming resources through tools, skills, organization and knowledge)
What are the modes of production
domestic production, tributary production, and capitalist production
What is Domestic Production?
foragers and small-scale farms with collective ownership of means of production with the labor organized by kinship relations
What is Tributary Production?
Societies that have classes with farmers produce food for themselves and also a portion to the rulers. Production is under political control and can change based on rulers with redistribution being in the form of feasts or protection.
What is Capitalist Production?
Began during the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe with private property being owned by the capitalist class with the workers selling their labor to others.
What is Consumption?
The process of buying, eating, or using a resource, food, commodity, or service.
What is Commodity?
A good that is produced for sale or exchange for other goods
What is a Political Economy?
Contextualizes economic relations within state structures, political processes, social structures, and cultural values
What is Structural Violence?
A social structure or institution harms people by preventing them from meeting their basic needs
