Transportation and Logistics career cluster
This career cluster incorporates the planning, management, and movement of people, materials, and goods. This incorporates all types of shipping (such as by road, pipeline, air, rail, water, etc.). In short, this cluster deals with how to transport things in the cheapest, most efficient way possible.
Transportation and Operations Pathway
Careers in this pathway are always on the move! That’s because jobs and careers in this pathway include drivers, pilots, and captains of the vehicles, planes, and boats that transport people and products. They are the support people who ensure that any cargo transport is safe, secure, and on time.
Logistics Planning and Management Services Pathway
This pathway includes careers which involve the planning, management, and control of the physical distribution of materials, products, and people. People in this pathway have their work cut out for them, as often there is more than one mode of transportation used to distribute products, and this distribution system can be complex as items may have to travel across the country or even globally.
Warehousing & Distribution Center Operations Pathway
This pathway focuses on jobs and careers that operate and manage the facilities that hold all the products that are sold around the world everyday—think warehouses, ports, terminals etc. Every piece of product stored in these places needs to be tracked, sorted, labeled, and loaded accurately and safely, with the time kept track of as well. People in this career path are organizational wizards who pay attention to detail.
Facility & Mobile Equipment Maintenance Pathway
This pathway focuses on maintenance, repair, and servicing of the vehicles and transportation facilities. They also make sure all pieces of mobile equipment have the gas and fuel they need. People in this pathway keep the equipment needed for shipping running and maintained, while always looking for ways to do so to save money. Jobs and careers in this pathway include electrical/electronic techs, facility engineers, industrial electricians, and industrial equipment mechanics.
Transportation Systems/Infrastructure Planning, Management & Regulation Pathway
People in this pathway deal with all areas of the design and operation of public transportation systems. This includes road, air, sea, and rail. They work with people who are employed by federal, state, and local transportation agencies. Some jobs/careers that are in this pathway include air traffic controllers, aviation inspectors, engineering techs, freight inspectors, marine cargo inspectors, motor vehicle inspectors, surveying and mapping techs, and transportation engineers.
Health, Safety, & Environmental Management Pathway
The careers and jobs which fall into this pathway involve assessing and managing risks associated with safety and environmental issues. Making sure our environment stays safe is more important and more challenging today than ever before in history. People who work in this pathway research, plan, and carry out activities to make sure the environment we live in is safe and clean.
Sales and Service Pathway
Sales and Service. Careers in this pathway involve the marketing and selling of transportation services. They provide new transportation options to their customers, such as finding ways to transport more of their products or working with another location this company may have. They also provide customer service to their existing customers, making sure to maintain the relationships they have to keep their business with them.
