Lesson 4 Flashcards
What factors affect the relative hand strength?
-Range filtering
-Texture
-configuration
What happens to relative hand strength when my opponent polarises a lot?
- Less value bet thinly
- Defend more passively to aggression, when my opponent polarises enough, his range is air and very strong hands. His air can’t call me, and his strong hands will invest more even if I just call.
as BU vs SB 3-bet pot,
flop T94 ddc B75/C
turn Kc B75/C
river Ah X
action is on me on BU with AJdd ,what should i do?
I can’t value bet thinly with AJdd since villian’s range is very polar. Check back 100% of the time.
as BU vs SB 3-bet,
flop AJ4r B33/C
turn 8r B60
what do I do with AJ?
keep calling. Villian’s range is polar and despite the fact that I want to play for stacks, he will fold his bluffs and invest more on the river with his strong hands.
What do I do if my opponent condenses his range?
- I use larger sizes vs capped ranges
- avoid slowplaying since villain will have middling hands that won’t invest themselves unless I will
as UTG vs BB SRP,
flop AT3r X/B33/C
turn 7r X, what should I do with AQo?
When I bet (about half the time) bet huge (1.5 pot).
as UTG vs BU SRP,
flop KKJr B33/C
turn 5 B75/C
river 7s
what should I do as UTG with KTs?
Bet myself, actually GTOW prefers a smaller sizing, and is indifferent if BU raises even small(!).
What happens on wetter textures to the absolute rank of a hand?
The rank of a hand goes down.
EG top pair on A73r is very different than top pair on QT8ccc
How to think about texture when it comes to turn and river?
Take into account all 4/5 cards and don’t focus only on the last one
as UTG vs BB,
flop comes AT3dcs X/B33/C
turn 7h X/B150/C
river 5h X
what is the threshold for value betting?
It is a dry texture so AK (top-top) can still bet for thin value sometimes, AQ checks back.
as UTG vs BB,
flop comes AT3dcs X/B33/C
turn Jc X/B75/C
river 8c
What is the value betting threshold?
Since this is a very wet texture, the threshold for value betting is high (a straight plus). Even AA (top set) just check behind.
as UTG vs BB SRP,
flop AT3r X/B33/C
turn 6h X/? what should I do with AK?
Always bet. It’s a mistake to check back. It’s a dry texture and a blank turn, so urgency is still high.
as UTG vs BB SRP,
flop AT3r X/B33/C
turn Td X/? what should I do with AK?
I can check or bet, the urgency isn’t high since the turn card was messy
Explain what configuration is and how is it relevant to hand strength
Preflop positions and actions on previous streets.
The tighter the configuration the more relative hand strength will go down.
The looser the configuration the more the value of absolute hand strength will go up.
Think about a pair in a heads-up SRP hand vs top-top in 924 in a 4-bet pot utg vs utg+1
Comparing the configurations UTG vs BB SRP and BU vs BB SRP,
how would BB’s response to a v-bet on
QdTh3c change with the following hands and why?
1. A9hh
2. 77
3. 98ss
What’s the essence of the method described in this question and why is it useful?
The first two suffer more as the villain’s range gets stronger, so they fold a lot more and continue pure vs. BU.
98 draws to a gutshot and doesn’t care about villian’s range so it continues more often. It’s like folding more fds because of a tighter configuration- not happening.
It’s the process of familiarizing myself with different configurations and different responses of my range to bets (specifically here call/fold thresholds).
Is this a must bluff, can bluff or cannot bluff situation?
as BU vs BB,
flop is KJ5dhc C/B33/C
Turn 8d X
Q6ss
Can bluff.
It’s a neutral world. I don’t block his continue range (diamonds for example) so meh
-Solver bluffs that hand 20% of the time
Is this a must bluff, can bluff or cannot bluff situation?
as BU vs BB,
flop 3s3c2c x/x
turn Qd
we have T9hh
Can bluff - I need to bluff either turn or river. Turn card is better for BU’s range.
-Solver bluffs this hand 50% of the time
Is this a must bluff, can bluff, or cannot bluff situation?
sb sv bb SRP
Q95dhc X/B33/C
turn 8d x/x
river 4d as sb with KdTh
mandatory bluff - I have no SDV, I have a blocker to a strong hand, and villain checked turn after betting flop
-Solver never ever checks that spot, mixes between 35%,75% and 125%.
Is this a must bluff, can bluff or cannot bluff situation?
sb sv bb
J95 flop X/X
J turn X/X
J river
with KQdd
cannot bluff - i have too much sdv to turn my hand into a bluff.
-solver never bets that hand.
as BB vs UTG,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn Jd x/B75
What should I do as BB with Q8hh?
I have a weak top pair on a straight board which hits utg’s range hard. Mostly fold(!).
as BB vs BU,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn Jd x/B75
What should I do as BB with Q8hh?
It’s a clear call as BU’s range is wide and top pair is still a relatively strong hand in this configuration.
as BB vs UTG,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn 6c x/B75
What should I do with BB with KJss?
vs 75% I need 30% equity.
I have 8 outs to the nuts straight, 6 of those are clean. I can see all options as viable.
as BB vs UTG,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn 6c x/B75
What should I do with BB with 88?
pure fold -
while i do unblock his bluffs i also unblock his value, and if I’m behind i have very little outs to improve
as BB vs BU,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn Jd x/B75
What should I do as BB with AdTc?
Call. Those aren’t the best suits (Ad blocks a lot of his bluff range) but we’re still against BU and for this loose configuration, this is good enough to continue.
as BB vs UTG,
flop comes QT3 dhc X/B33/C
turn Jd x/B75
What should I do as BB with AdTc?
Pure fold. This is a tight configuration, and I block his bluffs with Ad (other suits are indifferent between calling and folding).
