Lesson 2 - Electrostatics Pt 2 Flashcards
What does the term ‘electrostatic field’ mean?
The term means that when an object becomes charged, a field is made around the object. This is called an electrostatic field.
What are atoms made up of (which particles)?
They are made up of 3 particles - protons, electrons and neutrons.
How much charge does an atom have and why?
An atom doesn’t have any charge. This is because it contains the same amount of protons and electrons, so the charge cancels out and becomes neutral
What does it mean by ‘attraction’ and ‘repulsion’ in electricity, and what type of objects do this?
Attraction in electricity means that 2 objects attract each other. This is because they have different charged. Repulsion means that 2 objects repel each other. This is because they have the same charge and do not go together.
If there is no electrostatic field, where do the particles go?
The particles evenly spread.
