FOLK SONGS
consists of soothing songs often sung to put babies to sleep.
LULLABY
a courtship song used by young men to capture the heart of the girl they love.
SERENADE
- used to give respect, excuse, or apology to unseen or other elemental spirits our ancestors believed in to deliver them from danger or harm, or cast a spell or enchantment.
- commonly used in witchrafts
CHANTS
long narrative accounts of heroic deeds and adventures
EPIC
a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events
MYTH
- also known as alamat
- stories that explain the origin of things and phenomena in the surrounding world.
LEGENDS
- a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels
- meant to teach a moral or principal.
- use human characters in believable situations so that the reader or listener feels able to relate.
