Literature
- product of a written literature
- it narrates a story; it expresses feelings, thoughts, and - ideas which can either be based from the imagination or real life experiences of the author or other people;
- uses literary devices
Literary Text
a literary term where you use “like” or “as” to compare two different things and show a common quality between them.
SIMILE
- a comparison between two things that are otherwise unrelated. With ____, the qualities of one thing are figuratively carried over to another

METAPHOR
when something non-human, object or animal, is given human-like qualities like yelling, howling, waving, crying etc.
PERSONIFICATION
a powerful sensory language technique that helps the reader imagine the world using descriptive details of the five senses i.e. taste, touch, sight, smell, and sound
IMAGERY
use of symbols to depict deeper meanings and qualities.
SYMBOLISM
used to introduce past events. It is either used to introduce events that happened before the story or to reflect on the events that happened earlier in the story
FLASHBACK
a technique used by writers to inform their readers about an event that has to happen later in the story.
FORESHADOWING
- a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language.
- can be free verse or structured
- uses literary devices to suggest differential interpretation to words
Poetry
a type of fourteen-line poem. Traditionally, the fourteen lines of a ____ consist of an octave (or two quatrains making up a stanza of 8 lines) and a sestet (a stanza of six lines).
Sonnet
a Japanese poetic form that consists of three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third (5-7-5).
Haiku
is usually shorter than other genres, but some poems are classified as epic poetry, which is a long narrative poem chronicling heroic deeds and serious subject matter.
Poetry
- a literary genre that shares many features of other forms of literature but possesses a characteristic that makes it distinct.
- tells a story by employing the seven elements of fiction/story
Drama
What sets drama apart from other literature?
it is performed by actors on a stage or in a film in front of an audience
- any narrative or descriptive content that is derived from imagination from fact or history.
- more structured than poetry; it must be written in sentences and paragraphs with all the proper punctuation and grammar.
- subject matter can be anything
Fiction
