Prometheus asked Zeus for fire, then stole it and gave it to men so that they would not suffer. As men lifted their eyes from the ground and watched the smoke from the fire, they began to wonder. They began to think and where no longer earthbound clods. They built temples to honor gods, and they burned the best pieces of meat on their altars. They were protected from wild animals, who feared fire.
