Lesson 1- Intro To Anatomy Flashcards
What are the 11 systems in the body?
Muscular, Skeletal, Endocrine, Nervous, Digestive, Urinary, Lymphatic, Reproductive, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Integumentary
What are the structural organization levels in the body from smallest to largest?
Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
What is an example of the chemical level of the body?
A molecule or atom
What is an example of the cellular level of the body?
A smooth muscle cell
What is an example of the tissue level of the body?
Muscle tissue
What is an example of the organ level of the body?
Bladder
What is an example of the organ system level of the body?
Digestive system
What is an example of the organism level of the body?
Your body
What is the difference between anatomy and physiology?
Anatomy is the structure of something and physiology is the function of a structure.
What is the function of the integumentary system?
It encloses the internal body structures
it is also the site of many sensory receptors
What is the function of the skeletal system?
It supports the body and enables movement (with muscular system)
What is the function of the muscular system?
It enables movement and helps maintain body temperature
What is the function of the nervous system?
It detects and processes sensory information
it also activates bodily responses
What is the function of the endocrine system?
It secretes hormones and regulates bodily processes
What is the function of the cardiovascular system?
It delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissues
It also equalizes temperature in the body
What is the function of the lymphatic system?
It returns fluid to blood and defends against pathogens
What is the function of the respiratory system?
It removes carbon dioxide from the body
It also delivers oxygen to the blood
What is the function of the Digestive system?
It processes food for use by the body and removes wastes from undigested food.
What is the function of the urinary system?
It controls water balance in the body and removes wastes from blood and excretes them
What is the function of the male reproductive system?
It produces sex hormones and gametes
It also delivers gametes to females
What is the function of the female reproductive system?
It produces sex hormones and gametes
It supports embryo/fetus until birth
It produces milk for infant
What are the 4 different kinds of tissue membranes?
Mucous, serous, cutaneous, and synovial
Where and what are mucous membranes?
they line the digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive tracts. They are coated with the secretions of mucous glands
Where are serous membranes?
Line the body cavities closed to the exterior of the body
Peritoneal, pleural, and pericardial
Where are cutaneous membranes?
It is the skin, is covers the body’s surface
Where and what do synovial membranes do?
They line the joint cavities and produce the fluid within the joint
