More severe infections entail hepatic & renal failure, which may prove fatal.
Penetrate abraded skin or mucous membranes
Most cases resolve w/o sequelae
Sever cases are biphasic

A
Leptospires are present in the blood and CSF
Abrupt onset of symptoms

A
Accompanied by the production of IgM ab
Earlier symptoms recur and signs of meningeal irritation become apparent
CSF- pleocytotic
Severe cases jaundice appears and may be followed by hepatic and renal failure, widespread hemorrhages
**Weil Disease- severe leptospirosis
