Tropical Phagedenic Ulcer- rapid spreading and sloughing- tropical foot. Painful necrotizing lesion of the skin & subQ tissue of the legs
Starts on skin at point of trauma and spreads quickly. Putrid exudates
Complete healing can be delayed for years
Secondary infection, tibial osteomyelitis, & squamous cell carcinoma may be late complications
T. vincentii, B. fusiformis, Bacteriodes spp., Corynebacterium spp.
Noma- destructive lesion of the face (gangrenous stomatitis, cancrum oris) rapidly progressive necrosis of soft tissues and bones of the mouth and face, unilateral.
Afflicts malnourished children of tropical regions
Lesions are painful, advanced lesions reveal necrosis of skin, muscle, and adipose tissue, with exposure to underlying bone.
Death without treatment
