-this was a failure
-this along with expansion into Hungary and Germany showed the strength of capitalism
-cominterm wanted to continue to spread revolution but they had little early success

-both had been isolated by international communities
-germany with treaty of versailles, russia with fear of communism
terms:
-both nations promised to ‘co-operate in the spirit of mutual goodwill in meeting economic needs of both countries
-re-establish mutual relations
-allowed German military access (hit by ww1)
-allowed special trading rights
-turned into treaty of Berlin in 1926
zinoviev letter
-Anglo-soviet trade agreement signed in march 1921
-communist party Britain formed in 1920/21
-on 25th October, the daily mail published a letter from Zinoviev (head of comintern)
-alleged that urge of communist party in Britain to link up with labour to spread Leninism
-showed intrinsic link between labour and soviets
-made anglo-soviet agreements much more hostile to soviet regime
the death of lenin
-died in Jan 1924
-despite promise of peace land and bread, led russia to civil war and famine (1921)
-NEP unpopular with the communists due to capital compromise
