A problem arises & is brought to the government’s attention.
Problem
The Cabinet Minister discusses the problem with their people, & they come up with a solution.
Minister’s Solution
The Minister repeats the solution to the rest of the Cabinet Ministers, & they evaluate it.
Cabinet Discussion
Minister reads the bill to the House of Commons. They inform the other MPs that the bill is being planned.
First Reading
MPs evaluate a bill & discuss it in caucus. They then vote on it.
Second Reading
Group of MPs will discuss the bill, read it, & then suggest changes.
Committee Discussions
After all the changes, the bill is read once more. The MPs discuss the bill & vote on making it a law.
Third Reading
Bill is read three times in the Senate. It is usually passed, but is sometimes returned to the HoC.
Senate
If the bill is passed, it is then sent to the Governor General. If they sign it, it becomes a law.
