Health and safety at work act 1974
A
- the basis for other health and safety regulations and guidelines
- established the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as the regulator for the health, safety and welfare of people in work settings in the UK

Management of health and safety at work regulations 1999
A
- employers duties include carrying out and implementing risk assessments
- appoint person to manage HSS: requires the work setting to have arrangements in place to appoint competent people to manage the health, safety and security, and procedures for emergency situations which may arise
- employers must provide information, training and supervision so the work activities can be carried out safely
