What are some of the impacts of poor standards of care?

Define physical abuse and give examples
a form of abuse which causes harm to another individual’s body, or their own body.

Define sexual abuse and give examples
non-consensual physical intimacy where the other person does not permit to such actions and it is against their will.
- rape
- molestation
- sexual assault
- groping
Define emotional/psychological abuse and give examples
the persistant emotional maltreatment of an individual that can lead to severe adverse effects on their mental health and emotional development. controlling behaviour could also be involved.
- making a child feel worthless and unloved
- threats of abandonment
- harassment and humiliation
- blaming and isolation
Define neglect and give examples
the persistant failure to meet an individual’s basic needs
- not providing warmth, clothing, food, shelter, and love to a child
- ignoring medical and physical care needs
Define financial abuse and give examples
a form of abuse where the victim’s money or objects of value are taken or sold on for the gain of the offender. a lack of consent or understanding of the situation is usually present here.

Define institutional/organisational abuse and give examples
a form of abuse that takes place in specific care settings such as care homes, hospitals, nurseries, and schools.
- rules and routines decided by manager and staff only
- someone’s personal items being used for or by other people
- not having enough staff to look after service users
Define bullying and give examples
behaviour that is repeated, intentional, and often aimed at certain groups. it can be done face-to-face, through someone else (starting rumours), or virtually using technology.
- teasing
- name calling
- making threats
- cyberbullying
Define discriminatory abuse and give examples
treating someone unfavourably because of a particular characteristic (9 protected characteristics)
- derogatory remarks or inappropriate use of language related to a protected characteristic
- harassment or deliberate exclusion on the grounds of a protected characteristic
Define criminal exploitation/mate crime and give examples
involved unfairly manipulating someone for profit or personal gain. often, the abuser tends to be their friend. sometimes the abuser befriends an individual for the sole purpose of manipulating them.
