A
- Internet companies and governments are using personal data to invade privacy and track civilians.
- Facebook was involved in a scandal with using personal data for unintended purposes.
- WhatsApp and Apple have been criticised for encrypting messages sent by terrorists.
- Attackers are using botnets and infected systems to crack poorly secured databases and attempting to phish people for usernames and passwords. Examples include: Sony, Yahoo, TalkTalk.

- Unlawfully obtaining personal information and using it for identity theft or fraud.
- Harassment and threatening others on social or private messages; blackmail.
- Cyber attacks
- Sharing copyrighted material e.g television programmes, music, video games.
