-believe crime is due to relative deprivation so commit crime because they want the same as everyone else
-say people commiting are usually women, working class and ethnic minority (they make their own subcultures so they belong somewhere) as they are less deprived
-due to marginaliszation when people are treated differently and seperated from the rest of society so commit crime
-say that crime is commited due to a sense of powerlessness in life so commit to gain some back
