what is eysenck’s personality test?
-a 36 question questionaire with a large scale defining personalitys
-he gave a paper version out to 1000 people in the 1940s
eysenck’s assumptions
stated your either introvert or extrovert and within that your either stable or neurotic and if your neurotic you have a higher liklihood of criminality
key term - extrovert
you are an outgoing sociable and talkative person
key term - introvert
you keep to yourself and your very quiet, calm and collected
key term - stable
you are mentally and emotionally stable, in control of your emotions and know how to deal with them
key term - neurotic
you are unstable, impulsive, you overreact are aggressive and more likely to become a criminal
key term - conditioning
a way in which you can control and change behaviour by either rewarding it or punishing it
key term - genetic inheritance
the belief some of your personality traits are inherited making you gain eysenck’s criminal personality
eysenck’s strengths
-his answers were directly from the person and not researchers interpretation
-one of the first theories to look into personality type
-it is still used today and some school’s, jobs and withim police recruitment may ask you to do his test
-can link to typifications
eysenck’s weaknesses
- not scientific- responses could be biased and are subjective as it is a self report
- people also lie and forget, subject to social desireability bias
- ignores environmental factors
- unethical- invasive and personal
