why did the london riots begin?

A

Mark Duggan fit the typification at the time and was believed to be involved in a gang. They believed he had a gun on him and shot and killed him, he didn’t have a gun and wasn’t involved in a gang. So his family began protesting for his death

A

The riots began in tottenham being peaceful, people took advantage of the riots and it spread nationally with violent riots and theiving began.

how did the daily mail effect the riots?

A

They exagerated the protests and caused a moral panic. They painted mark as a gangster and printed a picture of him frowning everywhere to make him look bad but it was a picture after his mums funeral.

A

Kiers starmer spent 3 years going through security footage finding everyone who committed a crime. In an attempt to stop the rioting and deter them he made sentences 3x harsher

1 - a man stole a bag of rice and got a year in prison
2 - a man stole 3 cans of pepsi and threw them at police so he got a year for each can
