bandura (social learning theory) - learning theory Flashcards
key term - models and imitation
-states we learn behaviour through imitating models
-models are someone you look up to and you observe the operant conditioning they go through and act out the behaviour rewarded
banduras experiment
-he had 3 groups of 4-5 year olds and each group saw a model being verbally aggressive towards a bobo doll
-group 1 saw model praised for behaviour, group 2 saw them punished for it and group 3 saw them not being praised or puncished for behaviour
banduras findings in his experiment
when the children where left with the dolls, group 1 imitated behaviour, group 3 did but not as strongly and group 2 were less likely to imitate it
banduras strengths
-his study showed clear support
-study replicated with slight changes and same results were found
banduras weaknesses
-theory is based on lab studies so lacks ecological validity
-ignores freedom of choice conflicting with the legal statement you choose to commit crime
