Q

Describe the waterfall model and when to use it

A

When?

  • Simple and short projects
  • The tech is understood
  • Low level uncertainties
  • Stable environment
  • Resources and expertise are available
Advantages and Drawbacks
\+ Easy to plan and monitor
- Rather rigid
- Very hard for sponsors to get an idea of the final product
- Does not fit for complex projects

Q

Describe the Concurrent enginering model and when to use it

A

When?

  • When communication within is smooth
  • When customers can be involved in development
  • For R&D projects
  • When time to market need to be limited
  • Environments with high competition
Advantages and Drawbacks
\+ short time
\+ Flexibilitie
Increased productivity

Q

Describe Rolling wave planning (Agile)

A

Plan one phase (Sprint) at a time in detail.

When?

  • In uncertain environments
  • In R&D, high-tech, inventions projects
  • When there is no time pressure (for the whole project)
  • When resources are available and flexible
  • In goal-seeking projects or in projects where the scope is likely to change
  • For longer projects
Advantages and Drawbacks
\+ Needless planning is avoided
\+ Flexebliity
\+ Tolerates high uncertainty
\+ Iterative planning os possible
- Time and resources can easily get our of control
