Several physiological factors:

A

A nursing diagnosis can be made that a patient has deficient knowledge, decisional conflict, that they experience ineffective health maintenance, portray health-seeking behaviours, or that that they display readiness for enhanced knowledge and/or decision making.

What is the ‘telling’ teaching appraoch?

A

The nurse outlines that task to be done and the patient’s role, and gives instruction.
This is useful for when limited information is needed, and there is no need for feedback.

e.g., a nurse inserting an IV line and asking the patient to remain still.

A two-way communication where the nurse paces instruction according to the patient’s response.

This is useful for teaching a step-by-step procedure, such as changing a dressing.
