Lecture 9 - Regulations Flashcards
Should we regulate?
Regulations are imposition of limitations or standards on materials and/or processes
reduce impact of probability of negative consequences associated with risk
Purpose of regulations
implementing policies meant to safeguard public interest
under-regulation
Increased probability associated with risks, increased severity of negative consequences, lack of established protocols for groups to follow
over-regulation
restrict development, commercialization, dissemination of new products, effectively killing off emerging technologies
